Crime Prevention
The Alliance brings together a broad network of civil society organizations contributing to the achievement of security and justice for all. It ensures that civil society are recognized and heard in advancing the crime prevention and criminal justice agenda and in designing, implementing and measuring results of relevant policies everywhere. Under the umbrella of the Alliance, cooperation among its members will be strengthened, reinforcing the expertise and vision of each of the members to add value and support the work of relevant international organizations, especially UNODC. The Alliance encourages its members in playing a key role towards the achievement of the SDGs, and in particular Goal 16 to “Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels.”
The Police And Community Team (P.A.C.T.) is comprised of one lieutenant, one sergeant, one corporal and four officers who engage in crime prevention and problem-solving activities with the community. All members of our P.A.C.T. unit have gone through extensive training and are State Certified Crime Prevention Specialists.
Each member of the P.A.C.T. unit is assigned to a patrol beat and works as the department liaison within their assigned section. They work closely with other divisions within the police department and other City departments to address crime concerns. Further, these officers work with Crime Watch groups, community groups and citizens to assist in providing information, crime prevention techniques and solutions to resolve community crime concerns. The Global Initiative is an independent civil-society organization, headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, with a globally dispersed Secretariat and a high-level advisory board.
Its network members include prominent law-enforcement, governance and development practitioners who are dedicated to seeking new and innovative strategies and responses to organized crime.
Consistent with the aim to go global, and with one of the original objectives of the GI-TOC in mind, this strategy will continue to work towards putting in place the building blocks for a global strategy against organized crime.
The National Crime Prevention Strategy has the following objectives:
The establishment of a comprehensive policy framework which will enable government to address crime in a coordinated and focused manner which draws on the resources of all government agencies, as well as civil society.
The promotion of a shared understanding and common vision of how we, as a nation, are going to tackle crime. This vision should also inform and stimulate initiatives at provincial and local level.
The development of a set of national programmes which serve to kick start and focus the efforts of various government departments in delivering quality service aimed at solving the problems leading to high crime levels.
The maximisation of civil society's participation in mobilising and sustaining crime prevention initiatives.
Creation of a dedicated and integrated crime prevention capacity which can conduct ongoing research and evaluation of departmental and public campaigns as well as facilitating effective crime prevention programmes at provincial and local level.
This National Crime Prevention Strategy is based on a fundamentally new approach by government. In particular, it requires the development of wider responsibility for crime prevention and a shift in emphasis from reactive "crime control"; which deploys most resources towards responding after crimes have already been committed, towards proactive "crime prevention" aimed at preventing crime from occurring at all.

ICPC is also a member of the Programme Network Institutes affiliated with the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (UNODC), a network of institutions around the world which aim to assist Member States and the work of the Commission.
