Area Agencies on Aging (AAAs) were established under the Older Americans Act (OAA) in 1973 to respond to the needs of Americans 60 and over in every local community. There are 622 AAAs around the country.
In Arlington, the AAA is part of the Arlington County Department of Human Services’ Aging and Disability Services Division. The goal of the AAA is to promote the maximum level of independence of persons 60 and older, and to ensure that older Arlington residents live as an integral part of society, with dignity and with access to programs and services that meet their needs and preferences.

Artist Relief was organized by the Academy of American Poets, Artadia, Creative Capital, Foundation for Contemporary Arts, MAP Fund, YoungArts, and United States Artists. Artist Relief raised $25 million, beginning with seed funding from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, and then an important lead gift from the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation.
In total, Artist Relief distributed close to $23.4 million in emergency grants to 4,680 artists over 15 months. Artist Relief operated 13 cycles of funding from April 2020 to June 2021 that supported artists with $5,000 emergency relief grants.

AALDEF focuses on critical issues affecting Asian Americans, including immigrant rights, voting rights and democracy, economic justice for workers, educational equity, housing and environmental justice, and the elimination of anti-Asian violence, police misconduct, and human trafficking.
AALDEF engages in the following activities:
litigates cases that have major impacts on the Asian American community;
provides legal resources for community-based organizations and facilitates grassroots community organizing efforts;
conducts free, multilingual legal advice clinics for low-income Asian Americans and new immigrants;
educates Asian Americans about their legal rights;
comments on proposed legislation and governmental policies; and
trains students in public interest law and encourages them to use their legal skills to serve the community.
