The New York City Housing Authority's mission is to increase opportunities for low- and moderate-income New Yorkers by providing safe, affordable housing and facilitating access to social and community services. More than 400,000 New Yorkers reside in NYCHA's 326 public housing developments across the City’s five boroughs. Another 235,000 receive subsidized rental assistance in private homes through the NYCHA-administered Section 8 Leased Housing Program.
To fulfill this mission and better serve residents while facing dramatic reductions in traditional government funding, NYCHA is developing new financing options and building innovative partnerships across the public, private, and non-profit sectors. These strategies help NYCHA address many key challenges, from preserving aging housing stock through timely maintenance and modernization of buildings to increasing resident access to a multitude of community, educational and recreational programs, and job readiness and training initiatives.

For fifty-two years NYSFAAA has advocated for the increase of both federal and state aid for our students. Our member volunteers work with high schools within our communities to conduct successful FAFSA nights, while advocating in our state and local representatives’ offices in the morning.
Each NYSFAAA member embraces the core values of our organization. The heart of those core values is to be an organization that is unified in its representation, provide the means of communication to the financial aid professionals, and equip you by delivering professional development.
We are currently living in an era where ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic disparities along with other biases have taken over the news of the day. The global pandemic, COVID-19 has increased these issues. NYSFAAA members are not immune to these crises and while networking to find solutions and advocating for change we will continue to bring a new vision into focus as we walk into our future.
The need for safe, decent and affordable housing remains an ongoing challenge for the State of New York. This agency is committed to meeting this worthy challenge in comprehensive and innovative ways. The programs described below reflect our aim of advancing our housing goals for the benefit of our customers, the people of New York State.
