Animal Abuse & Cruelty Prevention
Tackling Wildlife Crime
The illegal wildlife trade subjects billions of animals to pain and suffering, and threatens to wipe out countless species. At ACRES, we combat this wildlife trade through our 24-hour Wildlife Crime Hotline, undercover investigations, public awareness campaigns and collaborations with other NGOs and the government. Our investigations have led to the capture of many wildlife criminals. Our campaigns and engagements with the government have led to vast improvements to national wildlife protection laws.
Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation
In 2009, we opened the ACRES Wildlife Rescue Centre (AWRC) in Singapore. In 2012, we established the ACRES Lao Wildlife Sanctuary. We now rescue, treat and rehabilitate hundreds of wild animals every year, some from the illegal exotic pet trade and others native to the forests in Singapore and Lao PDR that are found injured, lost or disorientated. We run our wildlife rescue services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The facilities operate on a “no kill” policy.
Addressing Zoo Animal Welfare
We also conduct scientific investigations into the welfare of animals in zoos and marine parks throughout Asia. We use our findings to raise the standards of captive environments across the region, to ensure that at least the basic needs of the animals are met and to end cruel and exploitative circus-style animal shows. Our work with the zoo community, governments and local NGOs has led to improved welfare standards at zoos in Singapore, Malaysia and Japan.
Humane Education
We never forget that the key to ending animal abuse is education. Our talks, roadshows and Humane Education programmes touch a wide cross section of society, from children in kindergarten to the elderly in the heartland, reaching over 100,000 individuals each year. We travel to schools as well as malls, both downtown and in the heartland. And almost every other day, we get a busload of school children visiting our Education Centre and Outdoor Conservation Classroom at the AWRC. Our aim is to encourage empathy, compassion and respect for animals as well as other human beings, and to inspire and empower children to change their world for the better.
Community Outreach
We currently have over 20,000 volunteers and supporters in our database. Our volunteer opportunities promote volunteerism in Singapore and create a more caring and compassionate society. We also distribute grants for local animal protection projects, organise conferences and forums and encourage people to become involved in global animal protection campaigns.
Promoting Cruelty-Free Living
Through our Cruelty-Free Living educational materials, we raise awareness about a wide range of household products, food items and fashion accessories that are either tested on animals or cause needless suffering and death in animal labs and factory farms. Our aim is to get consumers to make more humane, considerate and compassionate choices in their daily life.

Action for Dolphins (AFD) is a not-for-profit working to end cruelty to, and gain legal protection for, small cetaceans (dolphins and other small whales).
AFD focuses on small cetaceans because these sentient animals do not have adequate legal protection, and are subjected to some of the most extreme cruelty inflicted on animals anywhere in the world.
AFD's primary goal is to bring an end to unregulated and inhumane hunts that kill thousands of small cetaceans annually.
AFD also works to end activities that harm Australia's marine life - such as removing and replacing lethal shark nets and drumlines with humane alternatives - and to end the practice of dolphin and whale captivity.
While AFD began in Australia (and was previously called 'Australia for Dolphins'), dolphins and whales need our help in many countries and, as such, our efforts to protect them are truly global.
If you'd like to know more about what AFD is doing, we invite you to visit our campaign page at: http://www.afd.org.au/what-we-are-doing

The Alberta Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Alberta SPCA) is a registered charity dedicated to the welfare of animals. We encourage the humane treatment of animals through enforcement of animal protection legislation and through education programs throughout Alberta.
The Alberta SPCA has been at the forefront of animal welfare advances since being established in 1959. We were instrumental in establishing the Animal Protection Act of Alberta in 1967, which is among the best animal protection legislation in Canada. We work closely with other agencies in animal welfare, agriculture, education, violence prevention and other areas to provide the best level of protection for animals.
The Alberta SPCA is a charitable organization governed by a volunteer board of directors. We operate with the support of our members, donors, volunteers and the public who report suspected animal abuse and neglect. All donations to the Alberta SPCA are used to support our programs in Alberta.

The Animal Rights Foundation of Florida was founded in 1989 to promote and protect the rights of animals in Florida. Since our founding, we’ve recognized that change never happens fast enough, and victories are rarely complete, but when we look back we can see that—through persistence and patience—the situation for animals in Florida has improved.
ARFF reaches out to the public through demonstrations and outreach events, letters to the editor, and personal appearances by our spokespersons on radio, television, before civic groups and in school classrooms. We also promote the well-being of animals through meetings with, and campaigns directed at, industry and community decision-makers.
Our volunteers are the heart of our organization. An active e-mail list alerts members to upcoming demonstrations and the need for targeted letters.

AWI is the only organization solely focused on understanding the complex topic of animal wellness and leading the change to bring a more enlightened welfare state. Here at AWI, we’re looking to solve the big issue confronting welfare professionals today: How do we increase and support the health and well-being of those animals under human care or those living alongside human cultures so they can reach their own potential? We believe the answer lies in Wellness.
By approaching animals through a wellness perspective, we gain a richer story and deeper understanding of their lives. By learning this new approach, key insights can guide daily decisions and interactions that result in a higher quality of life for the animals, as well as those caring for them.
Everything we do at AWI is focused on advancing wellness approaches so every animal can live a life based upon their own goals and needs. As such, we focus our energies on three main pathways. First, we actively conduct ground-breaking research in how wellness can better prevent, identify, assess, and track life factors at both the individual and group level. Second, we share our knowledge to inspire innovation and change in the healthcare and welfare sectors. Third, we offer tailored, experiential training to organizations and professionals to provide a first-hand appreciation of the power of wellness.
