Affordable Housing
With so many families being priced out of an increasingly expensive rental market, we believe that hard-working New Yorkers deserve a decent place to call home. That’s why developing both single-family homes and multi-family buildings is at the very heart of our mission.
Thousands of New Yorkers are at risk of losing their affordable homes, whether it be through debt, disrepair or the rising costs of building maintenance. Part of our mission as a holistic housing developer, is working to ensure the residents of these homes can remain and thrive in New York for generations. Our Housing Preservation Program provides long-term, multi-generational housing solutions for low- to moderate-income resident homeowners.

The community development field works to improve the future of places for the people who live and work there. NACEDA works to develop a stronger, more unified community development field.
Our theory of change is that a stronger, more unified community development field will lead to stronger, healthier, more prosperous communities for those who live there − and that neighborhoods thrive where there are strong networks of community actors. Our members embody those networks.

The New York City Housing Authority's mission is to increase opportunities for low- and moderate-income New Yorkers by providing safe, affordable housing and facilitating access to social and community services. More than 400,000 New Yorkers reside in NYCHA's 326 public housing developments across the City’s five boroughs. Another 235,000 receive subsidized rental assistance in private homes through the NYCHA-administered Section 8 Leased Housing Program.
To fulfill this mission and better serve residents while facing dramatic reductions in traditional government funding, NYCHA is developing new financing options and building innovative partnerships across the public, private, and non-profit sectors. These strategies help NYCHA address many key challenges, from preserving aging housing stock through timely maintenance and modernization of buildings to increasing resident access to a multitude of community, educational and recreational programs, and job readiness and training initiatives.
